Clearance for Electronic Devices During Takeoff and Landing

“We have Clearance Clarence!” Well… Almost.

The Federal Aviation Administration in the US has today announced:

The FAA has determined that airlines can safely expand passenger use of Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) during all phases of flight, and is immediately providing the airlines with guidance. Expanded use will not happen overnight. The process will vary among airlines, but the agency expects airlines to allow passengers to safely use their devices in airplane mode, gate-to-gate, by the end of 2013.

So one would think it would only be a matter of time before Australia’s CASA offers the same flexibility to airlines operating in Australia. Fingers crossed CASA and the Airlines are quick to adopt guidelines that allow for a commonsense approach to using our portable electronic devices.
