“ATTENTION ATTENTION… Please click on . . . and turn on Instagram Post notifications or you may never see my posts AGAIN!” – Instagram post notifications, dispelling the propaganda.
Whoever started this trend on social media on Monday about Instagram Post Notifications, highlighted the power of social media by sending a large majority of users into a frenzy. We say … Keep Calm, here are the facts!
FACT 1
Firstly, yes Instagram is changing. Instagram made this announcement public on March 15. However the timeline algorithm won’t be the only change. The changes are less transparent and detailed then we would like but the changes will likely be introduced and tweaked as they are tested. This is nothing new, Facebook, has been using this method for years.
FACT 2
Your timeline will now be re-ordered by the newly introduced algorithm. Instagram will determine what you enjoy and engage in.
With Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all on-board with this approach, it’s time to embrace the changes as they are here to stay.
FACT 3
Instagram has only ever shown 150 images in your news feed. If 400 people all posted at 9am, you would only ever see the most recent 150 images on your timeline. Therefore, rather than seeing the most recent posts in chronological order up to 150 images, the algorithm will determine which images you see and in what order they appear.
FACT 4
You could invite your followers to turn on their post notifications, but do you personally really want to receive a notification on your phone EVERY TIME a new photo is posted by every one of your followers. We personally don’t and were guessing neither do you. What a distraction!
The best way to get noticed is with a solid and engaging social media management strategy.
FACT 5
Finally, with notifications either turned on or off, If your content is rubbish, your audience will not care.
