The Drug Education Network (DEN) is a Tasmanian not-for-profit alcohol and other drug health promotion organisation.
DEN neither condones nor condemns the use of drugs. Rather, they acknowledge that drug use exists irrespective of legal status or societal norms.
DEN provides school education, workforce training, resources and information to help keep Tasmanians safe from harm caused by alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
For the second year in a row, DEN sought the expertise of pepperit to develop an annual report, this time in the form of an online experience. Breaking the norms of a traditional printed report, we designed and delivered a dynamic and interactive website.
This digital initiative would expand the report’s reach and substantially increase engagement, surpassing the capabilities of previous reports.
Our first step was to conceptualise a central theme for the year, based on DEN’s values of professionalism, excellence, respect and collaboration. The pepperit team developed concepts based on ‘Discovery’ which manifested into graphics surrounding space, stars and rocket ships. To be in line with the space visuals, we switched up the default DEN minty green colour for a refreshing midnight blue.
As part of the project scope, we were tasked with adding interactivity and motion to bring the content to life. This perfectly aligned with our space concept.
We conceptualised the theme ‘Discovery’ to have creative opportunities for a dynamic online experience rather than just a static annual report.
We were excited to work with the content in the online format and the team looked for opportunities to add interactive and animated elements.
This year’s theme of ‘Discovery’ was interpreted through a playful set of space themed illustrations consisting of telescopes, shooting stars, spaceships and more, which tied in with DEN’s brand guidelines. The illustrations were animated across the site, creating an element of surprise as the user scrolls through the content rich sections.
When creating the design and feel for the webpage, accessibility was one of DEN’s main requirements. Pairing colours that were suitable for different types of colour vision was important. Tritanomaly makes it hard to tell the difference between blue and green, and with DEN’s branding being a minty green and our concept space and blues, we worked closely with DEN to balance aesthetics and allow visibility for all.
With the annual report web experience successfully launched, DEN was now able to share with their community.
We were excited to produce this digital intelligence report, that celebrates DEN’s success and endorses their mission and values.
“The creative team at pepperit went above and beyond to develop a truly engaging experience and a new way to present our Annual Report with outstanding results! ”
