Ortho Outreach

Giving life-changing surgical care across the Pacific the story it deserves.

Ortho Outreach (Orthopaedic Outreach Australasia) is a Sydney-based not-for-profit made up of volunteer surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals delivering life-changing orthopaedic surgical care across the Pacific and South-East Asia. Working in communities including Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nepal, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu, their teams treat complex fractures, neglected trauma and congenital deformities, and mentor local practitioners so that skill and capability stay in-country long after each visit. It is remarkable work, delivered by remarkable people.

Ortho Outreach already had a strong story to tell and a presentation to tell it with. What they wanted was to bring that story to life, so it could do justice to the scale of their impact and open doors with the corporate and individual sponsors who make each surgical program possible. That is where pepperit came in.

The Mission

Every surgical program Ortho Outreach runs depends on funding, whether from generous individuals, from medical-industry partners, or from Australian corporates who share a connection to the region. Winning that support means arriving in a meeting, or in an inbox, with materials that capture attention quickly and make a confident case for a commitment of $50,000 to $100,000.

Ortho Outreach came to pepperit to elevate their pitch materials into exactly that. They had the substance and the stories. We saw an opportunity to sharpen the messaging and lift the design, so a passionate, largely volunteer team could walk into any room and let the strength of their work speak for itself.

Our Approach

pepperit was engaged to bring together the two elements that would carry the story furthest: the words and the design.

Leading with the human story

We led with a truth that lands immediately. A broken bone is routine in Australia. In the Pacific, it can change the course of someone’s life. Real stories from the field, such as a Fijian labourer left with an unset fracture, and a local surgeon who retrained to serve her own community, carried the emotional weight before a single statistic appeared.

Answering the sponsor’s question

We built a clear and compelling case for partnership, one that speaks to what sponsors genuinely value: ESG and social licence, brand visibility in-country, a shared connection to the markets many of them already operate in, and the confidence of knowing how much of every dollar reaches the communities being served. We reframed impact as a return sponsors could be proud to report, turning the organisation’s own figures into a simple, powerful story. 72 volunteers, six nations, and $344K of support converted into $1.85M of surgical value delivered.

Two assets for how fundraising really happens

Rather than one document trying to do everything, we created a system of two. A short corporate intro, highly scannable and designed to open the door and win the meeting. And a full fundraising presentation deck, built for presenting in person and doubling as a leave-behind that holds its own as it moves up an approval chain. We structured the presentation as a flexible master deck with a swappable offer slide, so the team could tailor each pitch to each prospect in minutes.

A visual identity that puts people first

We made photography the hero and warmed the whole look, drawing a Pacific-blue palette and a soft watercolour theme from their logo so the design felt human and hopeful rather than clinical. We footnoted every statistic for credibility, and shaped the language to be respectful of the local clinicians the organisation partners with alongside.

THE UPSHOT

pepperit delivered a complete fundraising toolkit: a two-page corporate intro document and a full presentation deck, both grounded in a refreshed, people-first visual identity and copy that matches the significance of the work.

For a dedicated volunteer team, the shift was immediate. They now have a clear, confident and sponsor-ready system that leads with human stories, speaks directly to what partners care about, and adapts to each prospect with ease. Best of all, the team told us the new materials made a real difference to the thing that matters most: their ability to raise funds and keep sending surgical teams into the field.

“Working with pepperit has been an absolute game-changer for our organisation. They didn’t just listen to our goals, they completely understood our vision. Their ability to craft a compelling brand narrative paired with impact-driven stories resulted in an immediate and noticeable boost in our ability to fundraise.”Graham Hextell, Operational Manager, Ortho Outreach

“The team were professional, easy to deal with and provided helpful recommendations to help achieve the outcome we wanted. We are very happy.”Nadia Brandon-Black, Board Director, Ortho Outreach
