Newcastle Surf Life Saving Club

Newcastle Surf Life Saving Club plays a vital role in keeping local beaches safe while supporting a strong community of volunteers, members, and supporters. With a growing membership base and expanding community programs, the club needed a digital presence that better reflected its impact and made it easier for people to engage, volunteer, and stay informed.
The objective was to migrate the existing NSLSC website to a more modern and flexible platform that could better support the club’s growing digital needs. Alongside refreshing the visual design, the project focused on creating a more intuitive content management experience, enabling administrators to easily manage content, events and announcements through an integrated calendar.
The existing website made it difficult for users to locate key information, navigate programs and stay informed about club activities. NSLSC needed a platform that was clear, accessible and scalable to support future initiatives, events and membership growth, while allowing the committee to confidently manage the site internally.
We partnered closely with the NSLSC committee and key stakeholders to understand how different audiences interact with the organisation online, from new volunteers and parents through to long-standing members and corporate supporters.
Our approach centred on restructuring the website around the most common user needs. Content was reorganised so visitors can more easily locate essential information such as patrol rosters, programs, membership details and upcoming events. Clear calls to action were introduced across the site to support volunteer enquiries, membership registrations and community engagement.
Accessibility and usability were key considerations throughout the design process. The interface was designed to be clean, readable and mobile-friendly, recognising that many users access information quickly from their phones while at the beach or on the move.

The new platform provides NSLSC with a more flexible and sustainable digital foundation, allowing the club to manage content internally while delivering a clearer and more accessible experience for members, volunteers and the broader community. Early indicators following launch will help measure improvements in engagement, membership enquiries, event participation and overall site usability.
